Reasons for Weight Gain After Dieting

Are you a yo-yo dieter? Do you enthusiastically embark on a diet and lose weight only to pile the weight back on again - sometimes even more than you took off in the first place?

All too often, people succeed in losing weight, only to put it all back on again once the diet is over. Yo-yoing is a familiar story amongst dieters. They find a diet or a magic product guaranteed to make them lose weight, and launch into it full of confidence that ‘this is it’. ‘This time it will happen, this time it will stay off and the quick fix will last forever’.

BUT it doesn’t, and here they go again, on another search for THE best way to lose weight. Fad diets, weight loss products, pills, surgery, and punishing exercise routines are all meant to be temporary. Continuing any of them is a medical risk.

Here are the main reasons people gain weight after dieting :

1. It is important to understand that the weight loss industry, just like any other industry, is aimed at repeat sales. That’s why they want you to regain your weight! Every time you put weight back on again, you buy the diet programme again. This is a vicious circle, that could continue a lifetime.

2. A typical restriction diet where you are limited to certain foods, or amounts of food, cannot usually be sustained, as psychologically you feel you are missing out on something. But that can be coped with as long as you know the restriction will end. If you are “being good” now, your reward will be both a loss in weight, and being able to return to normal eating patterns. But it was your normal eating patterns that caused the weight problem in the first place. Here is another vicious circle.

3. Energy levels can easily drop during dieting, contributing to a loss of enthusiasm and motivation to continue.

4. Low calorie and other fad diets usually fail because they literally starve the body of much-needed nutrients, causing a biochemical imbalance. When we can no longer stand to continue with the diet because of how heavily our body is craving what is denied, we are usually forced to binge to the point of gaining more weight than was lost.

Breaking the vicious cycle of yo-yo dieting

The way to overcome this problem is to choose to eat only healthy foods, as a lifestyle decision. Eating restricted foods can be an occasional treat, instead of the norm. They do not have to be eliminated altogether.

Energy levels are easy to maintain, and will actually increase enormously on a healthy, balanced food system. A lifestyle diet should be followed for at least 30 days for it become a habit.

Cravings for non-healthy foods can be easily got rid of by juice detoxing. Once the addictive chemicals contained in these foods are eliminated from your body, you will no longer want, desire or crave them. Freshly-made juices (not store bought) will increase your health, nutrient intake and energy without adding weight. They also decrease hunger and the desire for food, naturally, and can be a substitute for food, eliminating overeating.
